MUSEUM VISIT

From the start of my project, I knew I wanted to tell a narrative from a historical tale and this led me to ancient Egypt and Anubis luckily when researching more into this cultures background I remembered that there is a great Egyptian exhibit at the Bristol Museum at the top of park street. This was very useful to go and visit as it allowed me to immerse myself in the aesthetic better and learn more about the processes and history of the Egyptian afterlife.
I think this project has been really good as has given me the idea and motivation to further its story post-submission. Especially this way of historical storytelling is exciting. I want to use techniques such as layering photography on the drawings to bring them into contemporary settings making for a very interesting longer project.

Despite the collection being vast at the museum, there didn’t seem to be much information about the god. This did not bother me as I knew I wanted my story to have a relatively fictional feel with notes that nod towards the historical fact.

I did find a lot of museum pieces that gave a feel for the after-death process sharing information on the process of mummification and the involvement of the canopic jars, the way the pets such as cats and dogs would be mummified to, and just the level of ornate detail and care taken.
