WORKS TOWARDS FINAL OUTCOME.

I have been interested in trying to tell a narrative around Anubis for my project and this has lead me to using different techniques such as trying to replicate a monochrome style with singular bursts of colour in this case just the heart I think this makes a sense of mystery with a sense of danger which is something prominent in Anubis/Anpus mythology. I have enjoyed looking at imagery and other artists representations as this has helped inform me

I have enjoyed looking at ancient Egyptian dress and attire this has been interesting and inspiring when trying to form this narrative and building my own visual identity of this mythology. Especially the armour and weapons. upon going to the Bristol Museum, I became more excited about working towards something with notes towards the historically accurate appearance.

It has been my intention to tell a story based in the modern setting essentially a current environment with the presence of the ancient Egyptian Mythology surrounding Anubis. I have enjoyed visualising the way upon the passing of a person in this modern time and how they would be greeted by this deity and its connotations of death.
This image is about where Anubis removes the heart of the deceased to weigh it against a feather. This then determines whether they have lived a clean and honest life or whether they have sinned. Sin results in Anubis feeding the heart to Amit the crocodile-headed goddess. Upon speculation, it is sometimes debated whether Anubis himself eats the heart of the sinner as he is the jackal. This forms a dark mystery around his origin and motive as a deity.

These are some other examples of where I have been messing around with aesthetics this has meant experimenting with almost a tattoo monochrome style when drawing a pack of jackals with their leader Anubis in his jackal form. On the right is a portrait I was going to use for a cover of a zine however I don’t believe I will have time to effectively finish these to the standard I want.
