PROJECT EVALUATION

I started by making this project around the narrative of Anubis. and have really found it interesting to understand and experiment with fictional stories inspired by this. I have used a range of techniques to explore this and have started many ideas to create a body of work in response. I have particularly enjoyed drawing the jackal and using styles that portray the Anubis character. I wanted to make a comic-style publication with this imagery and have animation and graphics scattered through with the use of possible QR codes. As I started planning this, I realized the speed I was completing work at would hinder completing this idea so started working towards the motion and the digital print outcomes. Despite not fully being able to fulfil my plan I do believe that I will continue this project personally as am really enjoying exploring historical forms of fiction and storytelling. Within the poster, I have really been inspired by the graphic novel artwork of the artist “Dave McKean. “Especially in this “Bat Man Arkham Asylum. “I really like this comic strip style being converted into a more graphical outcome. Another inspiration I took, came from the Instagram artist “Anthony Ventura “and his work “The Lamentable Tragedy Of “Titus Andronicus. “Especially for the way in which he frames certain sequences. I found it difficult when working on the animation outcome of the project to manipulate the work so that it had a themed background. This took a rather long time as was difficult to picture. Despite this, I am happy with the outcome and will work on extending motion and also adding sounds to future works in this ongoing project. I found it very useful to use the museum as a form of inspiration as it drove home the excitement and almost nostalgia of when going to museums as a kid. Seeing these relics in person made it so much easier to experiment with these styles for my outcome. A particular aspect of the poster that I had fun making was the use of a monkey skull from a museum in Cardiff. I liked using this form as a way of portraying Anubis’s potential skull when shape shifting from jackal-to-jackal man deity. Another invaluable skill I have learned whilst on this course is using the “Puppet Warp tool” on Photoshop this has been very useful for being able to manipulate my animation. I also was unable to use my printer back home and the communications and route I went in regard to printing could have been better egg Paper details etc. I feel this has been good as am doing similar techniques and styles from previous work with slight adaption to build upon my style and progression. I recognize whilst this project has been good, I still have struggled making enough connections in person with tutors and peers but this something I want to get better with and will communicate with university resources to help with fear of engaging more.
